PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cellulose powder having a particular short rod form with restricted length and diameter, and suitable for the tabletting of drug, by hydrolyzing a specific cellulosic raw material with a mineral acid, and cutting the depolymerized product finely in a liquid. CONSTITUTION:A cellulosic raw material having cellulose fiber diameter of 2-20mu, preferably 5-10mu (preferably dissolving wood pulp) is hydrolyzed with a mineral acid preferably hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and/or phosphoric acid to obtain a depolymerized product having an average polymerization degree of about 100-300. The product is disintegrated in a liquid until the product is divided to pass an about 60 mesh sieve (preferably the depolymerized product is dispersed in water or an aqueous solution at a concentration of 1-20wt%, and agitated to effect the size reduction). The hydrolysis is preferably carried out at an acid concentration of 0.01-1N and at >=90 deg.C. |
