PURPOSE:To enable to perform a systematic display of an appropriate exchanging time of a ribbon, by a method wherein, in a system with an impact system printer, the number of a letters printed by a printer is counted, and the result is compared with a value previously set and stored in a memory unit. CONSTITUTION:If a job starts through assignment of a printer 1, a processor 3 transfers an instruction, resetting a counter in the printer 1, to a controller in the printer 1, and simultaneously, transfers data being necessary to the job. If a printing starts, a controller counts up each one count at each printing, and after the job is completed, a count value is transferred to the processor 3. The processor 3 adds a number of letters, printed until a preceding printing time, previously stored in a non-volatile recorder 2 and the number of said letters, and compares the value with a number of letters corresponding to an exchanging time of a ribbon. In case the value exceeds a number of letters which needs an exchange of a ribbon, a display is made by a CRT display unit 4. |
