Axial traction applying drive - has motor driving drum via clutch and speed reducer to apply tension to strap around patient's body

The traction drive applies tension to a strap using a motor which drives a drum (33) about which a cord (2) is wound. The other end of the cord is attached to a strap which is fastened around the patient's body. A clutch (30) is positioned between the drum and motor so that they can be disengaged. The clutch engages a gear train (31,32) so that the drum is driven at a speed of between 5 and 10 times less than that of the clutch. The patient is supported on an articulated table and the traction is applied axially.
