The invention relates to a method for determining the output and rate of treatment of containers in vessel-storing treatment machines, such as bottle-cleaning machines, pasteurising machines and the like, in which a multiplicity of bottles are simultaneously fed in alongside to one another and treated in a plurality of rows. In the case of such machines, the number of bottles fed in does not necessarily correspond to the number of bottles discharged at the same time; furthermore, the number of bottles delivered is not necessarily the number of bottles which can be determined from the set throughput. Special measures must be taken to compensate for such malfunctions and characteristics, especially when the throughput of such machines is an important determinant of the way in which overall systems are controlled. These disadvantages are remedied according to the invention in that the output is continuously calculated from the number of vessels fed in, the treatment time, the throughput and the current filling level of the machine, and the characteristic value resulting from this is used to control the output of the treatment machine itself and/or further machines assigned to it.
