In burners with mixing chambers, which have openings for automatic suction of combustion air, it can frequently happen that, according to the type of use, flame parts are sucked in too, which cause ignition inside the mixing chamber and consequently prevent development of the flame at the burner itself, the mixing chamber possibly being damaged in addition under the influence of the heating. The invention envisages suction of the combustion air along an annular channel which surrounds the nozzle inlet and in which the sucked-in combustion air assumes a very high flow speed. Furthermore, at the end of this channel, there is a diversion of the flow of the sucked-in combustion air. Both as a result of throttling the cross-section and the high flow speed asociated therewith and also of the length of the channel and finally the diversion at the end of the channel, any flame parts sucked in too are caused to undergo extinction so that undesirable ignition inside the mixing chamber cannot take place.
