<p>The cylindrical shaft (37) consists of a number, e.g. 16, of wedge-shaped packets (39) of lamina, glued (45) together with their pointed edges forming the axis (11) of the shaft. The packets are produced from a rectangular stack of parallel soft iron lamina, each 0.5 mm thick, held together by 0.02 mm layers (45) of insulating adhesive. The completed stack at angles to the vertical to form the wedges. The wedges are assembled into a cylinder and glued, after which the shaft is turned in a lathe to produce the cylindrical outer surface of the shaft.</p> |
