A hand operated petrol engine driven harvester has opposed support legs (1.2) interconnected with a beam (3) forming a U-shaped portal frame. A mowing unit (7) has reciprocating cutter knives (6) driven by a motor drive unit (5). Behind the mowing unit fits a gathering and catching mechanism (8). A drive wheel (9) is mounted at the bottom of each support leg. The harvesting machine frame includes a follower wheel (64) and guide wheel (65) which are vertical adjustable. A handle (66) serves as an operating lever. A sterilising unit for the cutter mechanism is included.
