PURPOSE:To improve the activity of a catalyst compound and to reduce the pressure loss caused by the catalyst compound, by supporting a catalyst on a porous catalyst carrier consisting of a heat-resistant inorganic substance such as alumina, mullite, etc. so that a catalyst compound for steam reforming is formed. CONSTITUTION:The modifying device 4 using steam modifies a hydrocarbon which is passed through the water evaporating element 2 immersed in the water tank 3, mixed with water, sent through the pipe 1 to the catalyst compound 5 for steam reforming into an inorganic gas consisting essentially of hydrogen and carbon dioxide gas. The catalyst compound 5 for steam reforming is formed by supporting a catalyst on a porous catalyst carrier consisting of a heat-resistant inorganic substance. One or more of a r-alumina, mullite, cocinerite, mullite- zircon, alpha alumina-mullite, slicon carbide, silicon nitride, etc. are used as the heat- resistant inorganic substances. |
