In order to achieve as low as possible a temperature gradient between the surface of the food and the centre of the food when heating, in particular deep-frozen foods, in microwave ovens, so as to prevent burning, overcooking or drying out of the surface of the food, provision is made of a spit-like food thermometer which has a plurality of temperature sensors at different layers of insertion, in particular also at the level of the surface of the food, which are used to control the temperatures.
