A housing structure for an electrochemical element (1) (galvanic element) having a metal housing consisting of a cup part (2) and a cover (lid) part (8), especially for button cells and round cells, provides a cup (2) which is turned from solid material such that, in the transition region between the cup base (4) and the cup wall (3), it has a step (5) on which a separator (6) and seal (7) rest. Together with the conically upwardly tapered cup wall (3), this results in a wall profile which safely absorbs the bending forces, which occur in the process when the rim is formed, for the cell, it being possible, especially, for the seal (7) to be supported well on the step (5). <IMAGE>
