<p>The device comprises a silent-bloc (6) connecting the fore ends of the two arms (2) and (3) of the boom. The aft ends of the arms (2) and (3) are connected by a stern turn (5). The silent-bloc (6) is provided with surfaces (10, 11) which, during the fixation of the boom to the mast (7), are adjacent to the portion of the mast (7) orientated towards the fore leech rop (12) of the sail. The sail (4) is tensioned freely between the arms (2) and (3) by means of a trimming sheet (9) connecting the sheet point (8) of the sail to the stern turn (5). Under the effect of traction forces exerted on the sail (4) by the trimming sheet (9), the surfaces (10) and (11) are pressed against the portion of the mast (7) orientated towards the fore leech rope of the sail (4). The boom (1) is thus retained directly to the mast (7) by the pressure of the sail, without any other linking means. Preferably, there is provided on the mast (7) a coating increasing the friction force or reinforcement ribs to reduce the risks of slipping.</p> |
