In order to produce beams or sheets, so-called lamellae, from individual glued-together rods in a quick, cost effective and safe manner, a press which is provided with an end face pressing device and a lateral pressing device is combined with a feeding device. While the previously introduced rods are pressed in the press until the glue or the like produces bonding, the next stack is being prepared in the feeding device and is then preferably introduced by means of a driven push-in device when the press receptacle is once again unoccupied. It is possible to operate in an especially efficient manner when at least two, but preferably four individual presses are combined to form a rotor press, so that the stack of rods can be introduced, for example into the fourth individual press, at the same time as the glue is producing bonding in the first three individual presses. In order to be able to produce profiled beams, for example so-called casement wood, from which window casements can later be made, the pressing surfaces of the transverse supports, which together form a counter-holder, and of the pressing supports, which together form the lateral pressing device, can be provided with profiled sections, a two-part design with insertable profile strips being advantageously selected.
