The fly-wheel comprises four upper fly-weights (1) and four lower fly-weights (1a), which are displaceable under the effect of the centrifugal force between two minimum and maximum radial positions with respect to the center of rotation (3). Thus, the moment of inertia of the fly-wheel also varies between a minimum and a maximum. In known fly-wheels, the moment of inertia remains constant and determines the value of the necessary motor torque. On the contrary, the proposed fly-wheel must overcome - when starting or when the rate increases - only a reduced moment of inertia, and therefore a reduced motor torque is sufficient. Inversely, for a given moment of inertia a higher amount of stored energy is obtained at the end of the operation. Said method and fly-wheel are intended especially for battery- or accumulator-powered electric motors. |
