A magnetic bolt (20) has a movable and electromagnetically operated blocking element (28) which blocks or releases the rotor (3) of the cylinder (10) in co-operation with a blocking member (37) arranged on the rotor according as to whether the blocking element (28) is in a blocking notch (38) or in a free travel groove (35) of the blocking member (37), independently of the mechanical locking (4) of the rotor (3). The magnetic bolt (20) is arranged in the stator (5) of the cylinder and generates an additional electromagnetic locking upon energizing the magnetic coil (23).
