A method is described which is available even in the case of transient processes in the reactor and can detect cooling disturbances with high sensitivity. For this purpose, the local fuel or coolant temperature, which is not directly measurable in a sodium-cooled, fast breeder reactor, is determined from the total power, primary throughput of coolant, coolant inlet temperature and coolant outlet temperature at each fuel element with the aid of a recursive parameter and condition estimation method, preferably using a Kalman filter. The estimated value which is determined is monitored for deviations from the desired value. Deviations trigger a fault report. The noise in the estimated value of the local fuel temperature is substantially less than that in the previously employed coolant outlet temperature as a result of which the high sensitivity is achieved. Due to the continuous determination of all the relevant parameters, the method is available without limitation of sensitivity even in the case of changes in state.
|
