For the purpose of reducing the risk of buckling of a deformation body (4) which lies in series with a shock absorber (3) and is used to introduce impact forces from a bumper (2) into a side member (6) of the vehicle, the deformation body (4) is attached only by its bumper-side end to a crossmember (7), connecting the two side members, of the vehicle, while a stop (10) acting only in the longitudinal direction, is allocated to the other end of the deformation body, on the facing end (8) of the side member. In the region of the deformation body (4), the cross-section of the crossmember (7) is enlarged such that it accommodates the entire deformation body (4) and, at the same time, forms a holder (15) surrounding the end (8) of the side member and intended for accommodating the latter. <IMAGE>
