PURPOSE:To start catalytic combustion through simple treating operation by heating a catalyst by an electric heating element generating heat through conduction. CONSTITUTION:An electric heating element 6, which is made of a metal, such as stainless steel, platinum or a carbon group magnesia group and on which a heating wire is wound in form such as cylindrical, or the honeycomb electric heating element 6 is arranged into the flow path of a mixture just before a catalyst layer 2 for the catalytic combustion in coaxial form with the catalysts 2 or a plurality of the tabular electric heating elements 6 are disposed in parallel along a mixed air current. The electric heating element 6 or the catalysts are conducted when starting the catalytic combustion by using a method of which the electric heating element is incorporated into the catalysts or heat-generating metallic powdered bodies are mixed into the catalysts and catalysts themselves are heat- generated, and heated up to a catalytic reaction starting temperature. Accordingly, the catalytic combustion of the catalysts and the mixture can be started by employing the electric heating element which is easily treated and operated. |
