In a system and method for magnetically recording video signals, the video erase head is removed or mechanically or electronically disconnected during the recording in order to provide for interference-free insertion of new recordings into recordings already existing on the magnetic tape. The method provides for inexpensive and space-saving solutions, mainly in video recorders in the domestic field and in portable devices.
