The invention relates to copolyesters based on terephthalic acid, ethylene glycol and bis(4- alpha -hydroxyethoxyphenyl) sulphone and obtained by solid-phase polycondensation of a polymer of low molecular weight, to a process for the preparation thereof, and to containers, packages and packaging materials made from these copolyesters. The copolyesters have a low acetaldehyde content.
