Disk clamping mechanism for disk recording and reproducing devices of the type in which when a disk cartridge with a disk (6) enclosed therein is inserted into the device the disk clamping mechanism is actuated to clamp the raised groove guard formed around the rim of the disk (6) so that the disk (6) is pulled out of the cartridge when the latter is pulled out of the device. The clamping mechanisms include a pair of clamping arms or fingers (120-121) with projections adapted for engagement with the groove guard when the forces for pulling out the cartridge are transmitted to the disk (6) and employ a linkage or a mechanism of a wedge and tapered surfaces which is operatively connected to the clamping arms or fingers (120-121) in such a way that when the pulling forces are exerted to the disk (6) and to the clamping arms or fingers (120-121) the linkage or wedge-tapered surface mechanism causes the clamping arms or fingers (120-121) to move further each other, thus exerting stronger clamping forces to the disk (6).
