PURPOSE:To make the recognition of characters, by picking up two or more sorts of characteristic parameters from a character pattern and using these parameters. CONSTITUTION:A reading section reads in picture element unit and supplies it to a pre-processing section 2 with binarizing. A character pickup section 3 picks up the characteristic of stroke from a character pattern inputted from the section 2. A radical pattern recognizing section 4 compares the characteristic of picked up stroke with that of registrated radical pattern of a radical pattern dictionary 5 to select a radical pattern candidate with the high similarity. Further, a non-radical pattern recognizing section 6 compares the mesh characteristic of the non-radical pattern of a mesh dictionary 7 with the picked up mesh characteristic to select the non-radical pattern candidate with higher similarity. A score calculating section 8 scores the similarity of the condidate pattens selected at the section 4 and 6 and recognizes one character pattern finally for output. |
