The helical intake port (16) comprises a back portion (18) for receiving incoming air (20), this back portion converging into a helical ramp portion (24). The helical portion has a central axis (26) and terminates at the cylinder head (14). The helical ramp portion extends around the centre axis and a valve stem (30) through an angle of approx. 255 deg. The slope of the ramp portion (24), defined by an angle formed by a top surface of the intake port and the planar cylinder head (14), is approx. 15 deg.
