A hollow polyester fibre has a continuous void throughout its length, a saw-toothed type of crimp configuration, and contains a textile slackening agent. It has a non-round cross-section, a void content of 15-35% resulting from 4 continuous, parallel, equisized voids equispaced around a solid axial core, a denier per fibre of 4-10 and a crimp frequency of 4-10 crimps per in. The fibres can be intermingled to provide filling material for pillows, insulated garments and sleeping bags. The material has high bulk and high bulk durability, together with softness resembling that of natural down fillings. The fibre may be made of poly(ethylene terephthalate) and contain 0.1-1.0 wt.% Si as a silicone slackening agent. Pref. the void content is 17-25%, the denier per fibre is 5.0-6.0 crimp frequency is 5-7 crimps per in. and the fibre length is 2.0-3.0 in.
|
