<p>A stent delivery system (10) to facilitate introduction and placement of a stent (16) includes a catheter (8) with an expansible distal portion (14) that expands the catheter outer diameter from contracted to expanded state. A stent positioned around the catheter distal portion has a contracted condition sized to closely surround the catheter and is expansible to an expanded condition. An end portion of the stent defines a margin (15 ou 17) lying over the catheter expansible portion. A sleeve (18 or 20) in the region of the catheter distal portion is positioned around the catheter and has a first end fixed (at 22 or 24) to the catheter and a second end defining a margin (19 or 21) lying over the stent margin. The sleeve fixes the end of the stent on the catheter when the catheter is in contracted state. Expansion of the catheter from contracted to expanded state causes expansion of the stent, including the stent margin, from contracted to expanded condition. This causes the sleeve margin to slide from over the stent margin to release the stent.</p> |
