Proline derivatives of the formula (I): (wherein R is an acyl group bonded to the alpha -amino group of amino acid A and is selected from the group consisting of cyclopropanecarbonyl, cyclohexanecarbonyl and adamantanecarbonyl groups; A is glycine, sarcosine or alpha -D-amino acid residue the carbonyl group of which forms a thiol ester bond with the sulfur atom) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a process for producing the same are disclosed. The proline derivatives are useful for treating hypertension due to angiotensin II, and as an agent to treat cardiac insufficiency.
