PURPOSE:To prevent the shape degradation of a steel strip during cooling in a cooler wherein the steel strip passing therethrough is wound on rotary cooling bodies, by providing bridle rolls for regulating the tension of the steel strip before and behind these. CONSTITUTION:Respectively three pieces of bridle rolls 22, 22' are provided before and behind stationary and vertically moving type rotary cooling body 19, 20 groups wherein a refrigerant such as water is flowed. The rolls 22, 22' are supported by means of bearing blocks 24, 24' from the outer side of a furnace shell 35 and are coupled to speed reducers 26, 26' via couplings 25, 25' and to motors 28, 28' via couplings 27, 27'. The motor 28 is used for dragging and the motor 28' for motoring to apply tension upon a steel strip S between the rolls 22, and 22'. As a result, the contact surface pressure of the strip wound on the bodies 19, 20 with said cooling bodies is increased, and the strip is cooled uniformly by the cooling bodies, whereby the shape degradation of the steel strip occurring in irregular elongation is prevented. |
