The machine makes a complex cardboard box out of a flat blank, using a reciprocating punch which travels normal to the blank. The punch advances to impart the three-dimensional form to the blank and then retracts, comprising a rigid body (1,2a,2b) and two parts (9a,9b) which are capable of movement relative to the body. Each moving part is connected to the body by a pair of pin-jointed straps (5a,6a,5b,6b) forming a hinged parallelogram. This contacts the base (10) and a side wall (11a) of the finished box, and can retract at right angles (F2) to the direction of punch travel (F1) when not free to follow the punch. The arrangement allows the moving part to retract laterally without damaging the finished box and the punch may ascend vertically to treat a horizontal blank. |
