In the case of a cellular plastic buffer having an essentially cylindrical buffer body (2) consisting of foamed cellular plastic, for securely connecting the buffer body (2) to the base plate (1) while favourably utilising the energy of the buffer over its entire length, the buffer body (2) is attached by making the cellular plastic in the region of the end face of the buffer body (2) on the base plate side foam through clearances (7, 8) in the base plate (1) which are formed with thin walls and to be resilient in the direction of buffer impact, so that a closed end face (4) of the buffer body is produced underneath the base plate. <IMAGE>
