PURPOSE:To increase the power saving effect without lowering the brightness when replacing with the conventional 1,000W mercury lamp by containing a resistor directly coupled with the light emission lamp in the outer tube then limiting the resistance of said resistor and employing the high pressure sodium cell where the tube voltage of the light emission tube is limited. CONSTITUTION:During the lighting of the lamp the light emission tube 12 and the resistor 11 are connected in series and a portion of the input power to the lamp is consumed by the resistor 11 to suppress the increase of the tube voltage VLL of the light emission tube 12. The relation between the resistance R of said resistor 11 and the tube voltage VLL of the light emission tube is made such that R<=-0.18VLL+34.1R>=-0.31VLL+47.8 while VLL<=143, thereby the high pressure sodium lamp has the total flux same or higher than that of 1,000W fluorescent mercury lamp while exhibits the power saving effect more than 20% for the power consumption including the ballast loss of 1,000W fluorescent mercury lamp and has the comparable service life characteristic. |
