There is described a process for producing pure terephthalic acid and pure glycol. For this purpose, polyethylene terephthalate waste is continuously subjected to hydrolysis in an aqueous, neutral medium under high pressure and high temperature in the presence of decolorising carbon, the product is filtered at the hydrolysis temperature, and the terephthalic acid is crystallised out, whereupon the mother liquor is distilled to obtain the glycol. |
