PURPOSE:To decrease the total number of using buckets, by compressing the data and also deciding the size of a communication buffer in consideration of the bucket size. CONSTITUTION:In case 4 same characters continue for the data in the communication mode, the same character information is compressed to the 3-byte compression information. The compression information contains the 1-byte control character plus the 1-byte compressed character plus 1-byte character number. Such information is transmitted to a bucket exchange network 16 via a communication buffer region 13. In the receiving mode, the same characters are restored at an extension processing part 18 by a number equal to the compressed character number based on the 3-byte compression information.
