PURPOSE:To provide a small sized and compact electrostatic charger of high durability by the closely contacted electrodes of slender conductors on the insulation layer on a substrate of a conductor, and connecting electric power sources of AC and DC in series between the electrodes and the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A flat electrode 3 consisting of a substrate of a conductor, and comb-like paralle electrodes 4 disposed with electrodes of slender conductors in a comb shape are provided with an insulation layer 2 in-between, and an AC electric power source 5 and a DC electric power source 6 are connected in series between the electrodes 3 and 4. When an AC high voltage is applied to the electrodes 3, 4, creeping discharge is generated near the electrodes 4, and + and - charged ions exist in the electric discharging part. When a DC voltage of + is applied in this state, it repulses from said ions of + and the charged ions of + are scattered and are charged. Since the electrodes are connected in a laminar state, the entire part is made small in size and compact, and since the electrodes 4 are in closely contact with the insulation layer, the breakage thereof by the effect of electric force or in maintenance work is obviated and the durability is improved. |
