For the production of hooks with hardened tips for card tops (flats) and card filleting, a continuously fed wire is intermittently hardened by means of a high-frequency impulse hardening machine, leaving unhardened regions between the hardened zones. The wire treated in this way is broken into pieces by bending it in the middle of the hardened zone and these pieces of wire are then bent in a U shape and pushed through a foundation of woven cloth or the like. After the hooks have been put in place, the tips are ground.
