In this device, a disc-shaped planar transducer (3) is coupled to a fluid chamber (1). In the fluid chamber (1), a second fluid enclosed between two elastic sound-transmitting diaphragms (6) is located, the velocity of sound of which differs from the velocity of sound in the fluid chamber (1). This forms a fluid lens (2), the focal length of which is variable by changing the fluid volume enclosed in it. Furthermore, the focus can be displaced in the focal plane, preferably by adjusting an optional angle of inclination of the planar transducer (3) with respect to the optical axis of the fluid lens (2). <IMAGE>
