A cutting tool, in particular for a lathe, has a holder (1) which has a wedge-shaped recess (5), widening to the outside, for accommodating a cutting insert (7) having a longitudinally running guide profile, the wall which defines the recess in the holder likewise having a guide profile. In order to create a cutting tool whose holder can be fitted with cutting inserts having production tolerances without the position of the cutting edges relative to the holder substantially changing, a mounting body (6) is arranged between the holder and the cutting insert. The mounting body (6) is designed like U-shaped pincers and the recess in the holder is adapted to it. A longitudinally running guide profile (12) adapted to the guide profile of the cutting tool is provided in the pincer jaw. Guide profiles (9, 10) interacting with the guide profiles of the holder are arranged on the outside of the mounting body. <IMAGE>
