PURPOSE:To perform always stable and adequate fixing by controlling the supply energy to a radiation heat source in accordance with the detection signals indicating the quantity of light equivalent to fixing detected with photoelectric detecting means. CONSTITUTION:A fixing device by radiant heater is constituted of a radiation heat source 1 and a reflecting mirror 2, and photodetectors 11, 12, etc. are disposed. In the case of the detector 11, the direct light (a) from the source 1 and the multiple reflected light (c) from the plane of paper are detected at prescribed ratios. The detected outputs contain the equivalent direct light and the equivalent multiple reflected light at the adequate ratios determined in accordande with the fixing performance of the fixing device and are detected as the quantity of the light equivalent to fixing that can be contrasted with fixing performance. In accordance with the detection outputs thereof, the supply energy to the radiation source is controlled. Therefore, the always stable and adequate fixing is accomplished. |
