In a device for the application of liquid glue to workpiece sides which are continuously conveyed past and onto which an edge strip is adhesively bonded, a glue layer is formed on an application roll. For this purpose, the application roll is arranged upright with a lower part in a glue reservoir, and, by virtue of entrainment as a result of the roll rotation and the accumulation effect in an accumulation pocket adjacent to the roll, the glue is conveyed upwards to a roll upper part which comes into contact with the workpieces. So that the edge strips can also be glued at the same time, an auxiliary roll counter-rotating with respect to the application roll with the same circumferential velocity as the latter is arranged, axially parallel, directly adjacent to the roll upper part of the application roll, of the same height as the latter. At the discharge side of the two rolls, an accumulation chamber, parallel to the rolls, for the glue, is formed by a wall which reaches as far as the two rolls and extends at least over the height of the rolls.
