Although water-collecting channels on windscreen pillars of motor vehicles are capable of reducing to a large extent soiling of the side panes by dirty water flowing off from the windscreen, they also entail disadvantages, for example, with regard to an increase in the drag coefficient of the vehicle and the production of wind noises when driving quickly. The invention proposes to design the water-collecting channel in a manner such that it can be filled by a hose-shaped, inflatable filling body which can be connected alternately to a pressure source and a vacuum source, so that driving with the water-collecting channel open only has to be undertaken given appropriate weather conditions.
