In order to be able to work safely with a press for producing beams or sheets from individual glued-together or bonded-together rods, the lateral pressing device is situated on the side of the press facing away from the operator, and the counter-holder which receives the pressure of the lateral pressing device can be moved, and in particular slid, laterally approximately parallel to the plane of the sheet or the like to be produced into a release position. The counter-holder is composed of a plurality of transverse supports, to each of which is opposed a pressing support on the rear-side of the sheet or the like to be produced, all the pressing supports together forming the lateral pressing device. The rods rest on a supporting device which takes up the force of the end face pressing device. The latter, like the lateral pressing device, is essentially composed of a number of operating cylinders which corresponds to the number of transverse beams. A plurality of, especially four, such individual presses are advantageously combined to form a rotor press.
