<p>This wind-powered generator consists of a quasi-cylindrical sail arrangement of flexible strips attached to a drive shaft by radial arms and collars. When the wind-strength is low or variable, the sail is kept rotating by a magnetic motor powered by a proportion of the stored power generated by the generator. If this auxiliary power were not supplied, friction would stop the sail rotating, and the energy lost in re-starting it when the wind strength increased would be greater than that used to keep it turning.</p> |
