The invention proposes a lock-type closure for a direct reduction furnace operating under superatmospheric pressure which has a tapered closure bell (10) supported by a crossmember (18) which can be moved vertically by means of lifting rods (20, 22). To prolong the service life, coolant circulation is provided in the lifting rods (20, 22), the crossmember (18) and the closure bell (10). <IMAGE>
