Substrate material for photographic coatings has an antistatic back coating contg. a colloidal Al-modified silica (I), an alkali salt (II) of an organic poly-acid, an aq. dispersion of copolymers (III) of alkyl acrylate contg. 1-10 mole-% free COOH gps. and 0-20 mole-% free OH gps. and a trifunctional aziridine (IV) as crosslinker. Pref. (III) contains max. 25 mole-% polar gps. and pref. is a terpolymer of styrene, 1-4C alkyl acrylate and 10% methacrylic acid. The antistatic coating may also contain a Na-Mg silicate (V) of the montmorillonite type (II) is an alkali salt of polystyrenesulphonic acid or naphthalenesulphonic acid or an alkali cellulose sulphate. The pref. comps. (dry basis) is 23-70 (wt.)% (I), 3-30% (II), 30-70% polymeric binder, 0-30% (V) and 2-18% (IV). The substrate is polyolefin-coated paper.
