Chlorinated benzazepines I(n = 1, 2; when n = 2, Cl atoms were vicinal) were prepd. for use as norepinephrine N-methyltransferase inhibitors(test data tabulated). Thus, 2-ClC6H4-CH2NH(CH2)3Br.HBr was cyclized in the presence of AlCl3 to give 9-chloro-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-lH-2-benzazepine. Reaction of 5, --dichloro-2-tetralone with NaN3 gave a mixt. of isomers from which 6,7-dichloreo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-lH-2-benzazepine was isolated by chromatog.
