An optical disc fabrication method is characterized by the steps of constraining a flexible substrate, having a recording layer on one major surface, in radially symmetric tension so that it assumes a planar configuration, and laminating a support member to the other major surface of the substrate without substantially disturbing the planar configuration of the flexible substrate. The support member gives the resulting laminated structure sufficient rigidity so that it can be used as a rigid optical disc recording/playback apparatus. By maintaining the flexible member in a planar configuration during the lamination step, any bumps, pits, undulations, etc., in the underlying support member are masked by the adhesive laminant and thereby are rendered imperceptible in the recording layer.
|
