An arrangement for storing nuclear fuel units in a pond contg. water comprises numerous containment chambers which have neutron sbsorbing walls between them which extend over the active fuel length. The walls consist of plates, one plate forming one wall, and neutron absorbing plates (26,28) are located parallel to these. The appts. is cheap and can store fuel of an enrichment greater than that which has been forcast. part of the investment in the rack can be deferred for some years until increased capacity is required.
