PURPOSE:To improve the storability of an alkaline battery and suppress the rise in its internal resistance, by using cross-linked etherealized starch and carboxymethyl cellulose of prescribed properties as a gel-making agent for the cathode depolarizing mix of the battery. CONSTITUTION:3pts.wt. of a mixture made by mixing cross-linked etherealized starch at a weight ratio of 1:1 with carboxymethyl cellulose which has an etherealization degree of 0.8-1.2, an average molecular weight of 250,000-420,000 and an average polymerization degree of 1,200-1,900 are mixed with 97pts.wt. of an aqueous solution of 40wt% of KOH to prepare an electrolyte solution in a state of gel. 200pts.wt. of powder of amalgamated zinc are added to the electrolyte solution and they are mingled and kneaded to prepare a paste-like cathode depolarizing mix to manufacture a battery by a conventional method. Since the cross-linked etherealized starch is used, the stability of the gel is heightened to improve the storability of the battery. Since the prescribed carboxymethyl cellulose is jointly used, the rise in the internal resistance of the battery is suppressed to enhance its performance. |
