PURPOSE:To provide a new silver catalyst for ethylene oxide production which has functions such as a high selectivity, activity, and durable catalystic life as a catalyst used in producting ethylene oxide by contact gas-phase oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A silver catalyst for ethylene oxide production is composed of an alpha-alumina carrier and metal silver fine power particles in 5-25wt.% of the completed catalyst and cesium in 0.0001-0.05g-equivalent weight per 1kg of the completed catalyst which are carried on the carrier wherein the outer surface of the carrier and the surfaces of the pores of the carrier are coated with amorphous silica-alumina and the total amount of Si and Al in the amorphous silica-alumina is 3X10<-4> to 2X10<-1>g/g carrier and the Si/Al ratio of the amorphous material is 0.05-50.0g/g. Consequently, a new silver catalyst for ethylene oxide production which has an effect to maintain high selectivity and high activity for a long time is obtained. |
