PURPOSE:To provide high productivity of a low pitch honeycomb and provide a decomposition catalyst which has a high ozone decomposition function by carrying an active material having an ozone decomposing function in a prescribed thickness on an active carbon-containing support. CONSTITUTION:An active material (e.g. MnO2) having an ozone decomposing function is supported with 5-100mum thickness, on a support containing activated carbon. For example, 8kg of pulverized products of gaerome clay, 2kg of active carbon, 0.8kg of a methyl cellulose-based binder, and water a mixed and sufficiently kneaded by a kneader. The resulting body is thrown to an auger screw- type extruder provided with dies for honeycomb extrusion and extruded and the obtained honeycomb-like body is dried to obtain a honeycomb support. Then, 500ml of water and a small amount of a binder are added to 1kg of MnO2 having specific surface area of 67m<2>/g and the mixture is stirred and mixed to obtain a slurry. One obtained by cutting down the honeycomb body is immersed in the slurry which is diluted by adding 300ml of water, taken out, and dried to obtain the objective ozone decomposition catalyst. |
