Concealed fastener for timber or plastics panels - has ends of dowel pin expanded over tapered metal inserts

The concealed fastening is made by boring a blind hole (2,2a) in each of the two panels (1,13) to be joined. Into the base of each hole, is inserted a tapered metal expander (5) in the form of a wedge, a conical spike or a pyramid. A dowel pin (14) is introduced into the holes (2,2a) in each panel simultaneously. When the two panels are brought together, the ends of the dowel are forced over the expander and lock firmly in the holes.
