Impact resistant double glazed structure - comprising back laminate of polycarbonate, glass or solid resin plies and spaced front glass laminate

An impact resistant double glazed structure comprises a combination of (i) back laminate (6) positioned opposite the direction of impact consisting of polycarbonate, glass or solid resin laminae bonded together by a compatible adhesive provided that one or more are a polycarbonate lamina and (ii) front glass laminate (1) positioned forward of and spaced from the back laminate in relation to the impact direction. The laminae of (1) include front glass (2) and back glass (4) laminae both of thickness 30-220 mils and an intermediate glass core (3) of thickness greater than either of laminae (2) and (4) and bonded to them by a compatible adhesive. The laminate is lightweight, thin and may withstand repeated high velocity bullet strikes without being penetrated or spalling of the back layers.
